Scars

“Ummm… How do you want us to handle your scar?”

The question, posed to me after a photoshoot, surprised me initially. How would I want the world to see me in print if I had the option to ‘edit’?

It was the first time in a long time that I really considered my scar as something separate from myself, even if just for a moment. And in that same moment, I realized I want it exactly where it is. It’s my story.

I’ve spent my life thus far collecting scars, some more visible than others, and some far more entertaining and interesting.

But they all tell a tale, and they all play a part in who I am and say, “I experienced something that hurt me, but hey, I survived.”
